International Seminar in Kohtla-Jarve
During July 23-24, 2013, as part of the Co2olBricks project, Estonia hosted international information seminar «New technologies in construction and energy saving methods in refurbishment of historical buildings».
The event was organized with support from St. Petersburg Committee on External Affairs, Municipal Governments of Kohtla-Jarve Town and Vaivara rural municipality, Business Information Centre of St. Petersburg and Kohtla-Jarve, Estonian-Russian Chamber of Commerce, and Estonian company ‘Arza Grupp’ specializing in renovation projects for historical architectural monuments in Estonia.
The event was attended by representatives of local authorities, construction companies, managers and experts of museums and other cultural institutions from Russia (St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region) and Estonia (Ida-Virumaa).
Seminar participants were acquainted with the course of the Co2olBricks project implementation as well as with the energy saving methods used in Estonia during renovation of historical buildings. In addition, participants had a chance to visit historical sites in Ida-Virumaa and Laane-Virumaa whose renovation is either completed or presently at the stage of construction works.
The programme included plenary sessions, visits to sites of cultural/historical heritage, architectural and landscape art, business meetings and negotiations. During the first day, participants visited Herman Castle, bastions of Narva, Dark Garden, Resurrection Cathedral, and the newly renovated Centre of Culture in Sillamae. During the second day, they met with Kohtla-Jarve town officials and heard some presentations, after which they were acquainted with the work being done within the project of refurbishment of Kohtla-Jarve city centre, with the upcoming restoration works in the Cultural Centre and in the former school building at Spordi 2, which is the pilot project of Co2olBricks. The eventful programme of the second day also included visits to restoration sites, such as St. Michael’s Church in Johvi, Rakvere Castle, and Maidla Manor House.
Topics discussed during the visit were concerned with the international cooperation between foreign partners in the area of urban planning, energy-saving construction, and restoration, as well as participation in joint international projects supported by European Union funds.
